Felt:
vanilla latte – wcf0627 (block)
copper kettle – toy0660 (body and ears)
pumpkin spice – wcf0650 (tail and large circles)
old gold – wcf0420 (small circles)
Floss:
copper kettle – 301
pumpkin spice – 976
old gold – 783
loden – 522
DIRECTIONS – Refer to pattern and photo for applique placements and cutting instructions.
1] Make a copy of the pattern.
2] Cut out felt using material list above and pattern. Transfer any embroidery markings.
3] Using a running stitch, sew ear to block that is positioned behind head using 2 strands #301.
4] Using a blanket stitch, sew squirrel body to block using 3 strands #301.
5] Using a running stitch, sew ear to squirrel’s head using 2 strands #301.
6] Using a blanket stitch, sew tail to body using 3 strands #976.
7] Using a running stitch, sew eye to head using 2 strands #976.
8] Using a stem stitch, add detail to tail using 6 strands #976.
9] Using a stem stitch, add detail to leg using 6 strands #783.
10] For double buds, position large circles using the pattern. Place small circles on top of the large circles. Using a straight stitch, sew the buds to the block using 6 strands #301. The stitching should just overlap the small circle. Make 5 straight stitches. These stitches do not need to be evenly spaced. They should be slightly askew. Refer to photo. For single buds attach as above placing the small circles directly on the block.
11] Using a stem stitch, embroider flower stems using 6 strands #522.
12] Using a detached chain stitch, embroider leaves using 6 strands #522.
13] Using a straight stitch, add an iris using 6 strands #301.
